Satin Nutwood

This wood has both lighter and brown tones, which is why the different rings can vary so much. Satin Walnut wood finds its origin in the United States. Satin Walnut is not related to the nuts, like the walnut we know. Besides wood, this tree has another function. The sap is tapped for medicine and cosmetics. The balsam has a strong smell and taste. Its use in medicine for stomach and liver ailments has been around for a long time. However, our rings do not smell. Note: Each ring is handmade, so new rings and or other sizes may differ from the picture.

Arariba

Arariba is a red orange wood with a beautiful natural glint (the mirror). Arariba is also called Canarywood. The wood comes from South America. Latin name: Robinia pseudoacacia L.

Poplar Cluster Root

Poplar cluster root. The roots under the ground are fused together. This creates small holes where the root has not fully grown together. This manifests in a beautiful pattern on the light veneer. Fun fact: In Deventer on" De Worp" is a Poplar that is probably more than 200 years old.

Tineo

Another name for Tineo is Indian Apple. Which is funny because it does not grow a single apple and the tree is mainly found in South America. Even funnier is the Latin name Weinmannia Trichosperma (for some Dutch people). But Tineo veneer is especially beautiful because of the amazing flame markings. Loved on furniture but also loved by us and the fans of our products.

Walnut

Walnut wood, also known as walnut is known for its warm brown color. It is beautiful wood to work with and it also bends well! This species of tree grows all over the world but a little differently everywhere.

Amethyst

Amethyst is a mineral quartz. Already known to the Romans and ancient Egyptians. Later the stone was also called the bishop's stone because it used to be a popular gemstone for church dignitaries, as the stone was said to have magical powers. Today, this gemstone stands for its calming effect on the mind, which can help with stress, anxiety and sleep difficulties. It could also promote focus and concentration and help with processing emotional pain and trauma.

Fossil Shark Teeth

Small shark teeth are common and often wash up, on the Dutch and Belgian coast. Shark's teeth are almost the only part that can be found as a fossil. This is because the rest of the shark consists of cartilage. This digests very quickly.

Pyrite

Pyrite is sometimes called the “ Fool's Gold.” Somehow it looks like gold; it is also shiny. However, it is down to a type of stone. Pyrite promotes willpower, self-confidence and self-esteem.

Turquoise

Turquoise Stone is not only beautiful. The greenish blue color is often Tibetan or Chinese while the deep blue color comes from the Americas, among others. It also occurs in the 5th chakra. To Native Americans, Turquoise is a sacred stone while Buddhists have also used the stone for decades. It is said that the stone is able to hold the energy of the earth and thus is the breath of life for all living things. The gemstone offers protection as it puts a certain layer between the wearer and the environment.

De Houten Hollander: Leonie & Maikel

The idea for the Wooden Dutchman came about when Maikel, wanted to ask Leonie to marry him. Maikel made a beautiful ring and this got him thinking. Maikel is the maker and Leonie the talker! Our rings are made of bent veneer.
