This tree is from southeast Asia. From the genus Shorea of the family Dipterocarpacees. Can you pronounce it? There are at least 5 different main groups of meranti that express themselves in different colors. You may see very small pinholes in the veneer. These pinholes are made by “wetwood drillers”.
